How to hang a glass mirror

So you’ve just bought a mirror and it’s sitting somewhere in your house, waiting to be put up. It could be your new clothes dryer, or you could put it up and use as intended. But we get it, it’s a daunting task! We’ve made it easy for you by creating a step by step guide on how to hang that glass mirror and make it all seem a little less intimidating.

Let start with materials, you will need:

  • Your glass mirror, obviously
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil (putting it behind your ear is optional)
  • Spirit level or a fancy laser level
  • Screwdriver
  • Picture hanging kit- these usually include hanging wire, screw eyes and wall fasteners
  • If you’re hanging a heavy mirror you’ll need wall anchors

Step 1 – Measure and mark

Decide where you would like the mirror to be. Are you looking to brighten up the space, check your appearance or make the room appear bigger? It could be all three. After you’ve decided this, measure the height and width of the mirror. Using a measuring tape, measure and mark the centre of the wall where you want to hang the mirror. This will help you align the mirror correctly.

Step 2 – Use the picture hanging kit

As mentioned before, this kit should provide you with everything you need to hang your picture – hanging wire, screw eyes and wall fasteners. Follow the instructions on the pack to attach the fittings securely to the back of the mirror.

Step 3 – Determine the hanging location

Hold the glass mirror against the wall and mark the spot or spots where the hanger will rest. Use a spirit level to ensure the mirror is straight. If the mirror is heavy, you may need to use wall anchors to provide extra support.

Step 4 – Install the screws

Use a screwdriver to install the screws into the marked spots on the wall. Make sure the screws are installed securely and are level.

Step 5 – Hang the mirror!

Hang the mirror on the screws and adjust it to make sure it is level. Once you’re happy with it, step back and admire your handy work! Ps: you still have the pencil behind your ear.
